Research Shows Young Tomsk Residents are Happy to Live in their Hometown

Sociologists at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation have assessed the desire of Russian youth to leave their hometowns. Young people from Togliatti and Omsk are most eager to move to another city for a better life. Young people from Tomsk are happy to stay in their hometown.

Experts conducted a study in which they interviewed young people aged 18 to 30 from different cities of Russia. Respondents were asked whether they planned to move to another city for a better life. More than 67% of respondents say that they do not plan to move away from their hometowns, while the rest say that they are considering moving to another city.

According to the survey, most potential migrants live in Omsk, Barnaul, Chelyabinsk, Volgograd, Magnitogorsk, Lipetsk, Naberezhnye Chelny and Ulyanovsk. Young people from Tomsk, Sevastopol, Grozny, Krasnodar, Simferopol, Moscow and Novokuznetsk are the least likely to leave their hometowns.

According to Alexey Zubets, Director of the Institute of Socio-Economic Research of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, people leave mainly large and developed cities, where there are opportunities for education but not everyone can find a well-paid job.
