Russian National Development Corporation (VEB.RF) together with the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting company, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) have presented a project of an information and analytical platform called «Index of Quality of Life in Russian Cities».
This information and analysis platform aims to help investment decisions take into account the effects on society, as well as assessing where investments will have the greatest social impact.
«The index data will be the basis for making business decisions. With its help, we will be able to make the best investment decisions that will have the maximum impact. It is our responsibility to learn how to finance and support projects intelligently so that the public good converts into quality of life — at the level of European Union and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development cities. There are many opportunities in Russia. We want to learn to see them and use them properly,» Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of VEB.RF has commented.
The Index database includes more than 200 indicators, and the results of 115 Russian cities are compared with international ones. «In this work, we focus specifically on cities, as they are home to 75% of Russia’s population, or 110 million people. Urban economic development is the key to improving the quality of life for three quarters of the country’s population,» Andrey Samokhin, Chief Operating Officer and Head of the Analytics and Marketing Unit at VEB.RF Group, has also said.
Svetlana Chupsheva, Director General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), has added that the agency’s rating of the quality of life in Russia’s regions and the city life quality index presented by VEB.RF provide each governor with a comprehensive mechanism for improving the quality of life in the regions.
