A map of stained-glass windows of Petrogradsky district of St. Petersburg has appeared on the website «Stained Glass in Russia». Researchers have mapped 111 addresses where you can find houses with architectural glass from the beginning of the twentieth century.
The authors of the project «Stained glass windows of St.Petersburg: inventory 2020» have created the map of houses with stained-glass windows of the Petrogradsky district. Each address is accompanied by photographs of stained-glass windows, decorative glazing and doors.
According to the project website, «The survey of the Petrogradsky district took place from spring to autumn 2020. It was divided into 29 plots. At the end of the work 111 addresses with architectural glass from the beginning of the twentieth century were registered in the database. These are 562 objects: glass partitions in the space of staircases, stained-glass, decorative glazing with textured glass, etched and engraved, faceted glass in windows and transoms, decorative glass in flat and entrance doors, windows with Falconnier’s glass bricks».
Previously, stained-glass windows on Vasilievsky Island had been marked on the map.
The project «Stained glass windows of St.Petersburg: inventory 2020» was launched in 2019 by Sergey Vasilyev, deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, urban conservationist Aleksandr Tesakov and art historian Tatiana Knyazhitskaya. The map has been developed to organize a database of all surviving stained-glass windows created before 1917.
