The Urban Environment Development Centre has created a development strategy for Tomsk’s historic district

Specialists of the Urban Environment Development Centre have developed a large-scale strategy for the development of the “Boloto” District in the historical centre of Tomsk. The project, in addition to preserving the wooden buildings, includes the development of a boulevard with public buildings and spaces.

“Boloto”  is a historical district of Tomsk, located between Voskresenskaya Mountain and the Ushayka River. It is built up with wooden houses, among which there are architectural monuments, but many of them are in a state of disrepair.

“The central part of  “Boloto”  is the most problematic: the houses are practically ruined, it is very difficult to find owners of the plots. The main thing, of course, is to restore the historic buildings. On this territory, a public area with a promenade (boulevard) can be organised, incorporating the necessary functions into the restored buildings. The area will be attractive not only for tourists, but also for the citizens”, said  Konstantin Kazantsev, Head of the Centre.
