A village with 3D-printed houses in Mexico

In the Mexican state of Tabasco, the construction of the world’s first village, where all houses will be printed with 3D-printer, has been launched. They will be inhabited by local residents who often suffer from natural disasters, reports Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design with reference to CNN

“New Story”, “Icon” and “Échale” companies have started a charity project on the coastal plains of the Southern Gulf Of Mexico. In the flood-prone area, it is planned to print 50 residential buildings using a 3D-printer. Two such houses have already been built with account taken of the individual preferences of future residents.

Buildings are printed with the Icon Vulcan II 3D printer. It is possible to create foundations and walls of cement in 12 hours using this technology. The authors of the project claim that the concrete mixture used in the printer is stronger than the traditional materials. After printing the main parts, builders install the roof, windows, doors and decorative elements. The area of a standard house is 46 square meters. There are two bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen. The buildings are equipped with water supply, sewerage and electricity.

The locals will be able to move into new houses in a year.
